Primate Ndukuba Calls for Moral Reawakening, Warns Against Materialism in Ekiti

ADO-EKITI – The Primate of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Most Rev. Henry C. Ndukuba, has reiterated the urgent need for peace, moral reawakening, and responsible leadership across the country, warning that unchecked materialism and selfish interests are undermining the nation’s values.

Speaking during a courtesy visit to the palace of the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adejugbe, on Monday, ahead of the Standing Committee Meeting of the Church scheduled to hold in Ado-Ekiti, Archbishop Ndukuba lamented that Nigerian society now celebrates wealth and social status above integrity and selfless service.

The Primate observed that many leaders, when entrusted with responsibility, often prioritize personal gain over the welfare of the people. He urged Nigerians to redefine leadership by returning to God in truth and sincerity.

“Our values are being distorted. Society increasingly measures worth by wealth and position, and even those in leadership have often pursued self-interest at the expense of the common good. This is a dangerous path,” he said. “We must urgently return to selfless service, anchored on godly principles, if we are to recover true leadership.”

Archbishop Ndukuba sought the blessings of the Royal Father and assured that the Anglican Church will continue to pray for and partner with the throne to foster peace and harmony in Ekiti State.

In his remarks, the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Oba Adejugbe, commended the Church’s enduring role in national development and described their visit as a divine endorsement of the state. He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the Church and called on them to keep interceding for the people and the administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji, to ensure prosperity and stability for all residents.
